Triumph. I finally beat the Mameshiba slot machine game. No idea what a Mameshiba is? It’s a little bean dog that dispenses useless and somewhat icky trivia. Still have no idea what that means? Youtube it, friends.

A true gentleman leaves no puzzle unsolved!

<nerding out> I’ve been known to enjoy a good RPG or two. However, I rarely have the time to sit down for the requisite level grinding, weapons upgrading, or side-questing (I’m looking at you, FFVIII…).</nerding out>

That’s the beauty of the Nintendo DS - small enough to throw in my purse, cute and easy to customize, and host to a number of awesome games. Despite the fact that I’m about 3 years behind the times, I beat Professor Layton and the Curious Village last night and I’m tickled pink about it. You play as Professor Layton (pictured above), a British chap who enjoys top hats, tea, and logic puzzles. You have a young sidekick named Luke who follows you around town, talking to charming weirdos, solving puzzles, and gathering items to decorate your room at the inn. Yes, there’s a decorating side quest. Rule.

Did I mention the character designs are cute? And at one point you acquire a robot dog? ( I named mine RuPaul.) Too much fun, plus, I felt marginally smarter after solving difficult puzzles! Critical thinking is the key to success!

I miss the Blue Monte.

It was the first and only car I ever owned. Even though it didn’t have air conditioning or a working defroster, it was dependable, had some wicked pickup, and flippin’ racing stripes.

As far as I know, the guy who bought it still drives it around. Sometimes I hope that I’ll see it charging down the street as I ride my bike or drive my parents’ van. I sure miss it.

This is the Otamatone. It’s shaped like a musical note, or possibly a giant sperm. You play it by tapping or rubbing the stem and squeezing the face’s cheeks. It can make a variety of differently pitched sounds, all of them tremendously annoying. There are all kinds of videos of people jamming with their Otamatones in every musical style, from smooth ukulele jams to Dr. Dre. I personally like this one because in addition to showing the Otamatone in action, I am entertained by the stoic scientist guy on the left. His spectacled companion is having way too much fun, and he’s just silently calculating something…

Anyway, I want one of these things pretty bad, even if they are weirdly sperm shaped.

the things that amuse me are thoroughly unfunny.

<girly thought> If I ever get married, I want my wedding reception to go down EXACTLY like this. Lots of black masks, sharp suits, synchronized dancing, big hair, and sequins. Also, how cute is the lead dancer’s hair and makeup?! I want to wear a giant beehive and dance!</girly thought>

I originally saw this clip in Ghost World and I’ve been obsessed with it ever since. I am digging 60s styles and Indian pop/rock right now. If only I could do some form of dancing besides DDR…sigh.

More amigurumi. I want to eventually build up a small army to sell at Renegade. That process is slow going (I have two bunnies done so far.) Ironic considering I have a LOT of free time on my hands…
